There have been complaints recently about programs, like Democracy Now being cut off at the end.
In some cases it is because they run longer in New York, in other cases it is because their clocks may not be syncronized with ours. We regret when there are technical problems such as these, but given that the switch from satellite to pre-recorded programming is all automated, these kinds of problems will occur from time to time.
We talk with Democracy Now regularly and both sides try to work for the best presentation. They attempt to wrap their program at 58 minutes past the hour, which is when we switch to SCAN promotional materials (when corporate channels switch to commercials).
In the case of pre-recorded programs, it can mean that the producer of the program did not take steps to make certain that their program is precisely the length for the time slot available. Our staff work hard to detect such anomalies but some shows can slip by our notice.
SCAN is a small non-profit organization that, in my opinion, bravely does wonders with very little.
The staff, producers, volunteers and board of directors are all doing their best from personal passion.
We all work hard to keep technical problems to a minimum, but we operate a very complex machine.
We appreciate your continued patience and long standing support.

Build Awareness While Navigating Through Tough Economic Times
- Workshop
Co-Sponsored by EA & SCAN Community Media
- Jan 29th
Come and take in a morning of information that can help propel
your organizations mission to the forefront of the media. During these tough
economic times, organizations are in need of positive publicity and the
ability to maximize the use of various forms of media to communicate
their message. "Have
you ever wondered why certain organizations always seem to get the
best publicity, while others are never seen nor heard?"
or "Are you
interested in learning how best to utilize the newest forms of media or
communication tools (like twitter, facebook, etc.)?"
Well, this workshop is for you!

The SCAN Viewer Survey needs your opinion. The purpose of the survey is to discover what kind of television programming you would like to see on our channel. We would like your feedback on our current shows and input about what SCAN can do for our communities and nonprofit organizations. SCAN is a resource for building awareness about our neighborhoods. Take a minute and give us your opinion. Thanks.
