Welcome SCAN Content Producers and Providers

SCAN’s producers are as diverse as the communities in the Puget Sound region. Despite their different background and interests, they all have one thing in common; a passion for community TV. These folks and their shows represent the life blood of SCAN. Most importantly, these producers represent the cultures and personalities of the communities where they work and play in King County.

SCAN Content Provider

Content Providers submit programs to SCAN that are not created at the SCAN studios and production facilities. Providers are required to live within King County and to provide residency documentation that can or may include a driver’s license, voter registration card, a utility bill tied to your name and address and/or other proof of residency. They must also pay an annual fee of $50 for residents of Seattle and $100 for residents of King County. The fee for community groups, civic organizations, and non-profit 501 © (3) groups are $300 annually.

Individuals, who reside outside of King County, are NOT ELIGIBLE to become either a SCAN Content Provider or Content Producer. As previously stated Content Providers must also attend an initial orientation, free of charge and take a media literacy class. By the end of the class, Content Providers will understand that there are legal implications and complexities to video production. They will, however, understand the basic principles of video production; SCAN minimum technical standards, requirements and SCAN’s standards for delivered content. Upon completion of the media literacy class, you will know the next steps for participating as a Content Producer.

Content Producer

All Content Producers must first complete the steps required to become a Content Provider. Those wishing to create programming using SCAN studios and production facilities must then enroll in the Production Process track of classes to become a SCAN certified Content Producer. The Production Process and Studio tracks require basic computer competency. The classes also require previous experience, skills and knowledge working with both MAC’s and/ PC computers. If you do not have experience, skills and/or knowledge with MAC’s or PC’s than you must register for Garage Band to acquire skills and knowledge working on MAC’s and PC’s prior to enrolling in the Production Process track of classes.
